GENT
Gent Design Company is a contemporary furniture studio dedicated to quality craftsmanship and inspired design. All of the works from Gent Design Co. are designed and handcrafted by the company’s founder, Topher Gent in Providence, RI. With a diverse background in design and production experience, the company produces limited edition, bespoke pieces of artist quality furniture and objects for residential, commercial, or public use.
The Studio
The studio is nestled in the industrial setting of historic Olneyville in Providence Rhode Island. We are adjacent to the Steel Yard, an industrial arts organization committed to cultivating an environment of experimentation, and a community strengthened by creative networks. The industrial setting of Olneyville and the Steel Yard provide unequivocal inspiration and resources. It is incredibly valuable to be working amidst a tremendous manufacturing history, and a progressive community of artists and makers.
Topher Gent
Topher Gent is an American artist and furniture designer based in Providence, Rhode Island. He is known primarily for his work in steel, but has a fascination for materials, and often integrates wood, concrete, ceramic or stone into his designs. As a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Topher considers craftsmanship and the act of making to be an integral part of his studio practice. His work frequently seeks a balance between nature and an industrial aesthetic, while implementing a combination of traditional craft and modern technology. As a culmination of his passion for art and design, he founded Gent Design Co. in 2015. The contemporary furniture studio produces limited edition and one-of-a-kind artist quality furniture and objects.
